Hospitals are experiencing more outpatients in their units. Even for inpatients, hospitals frequently miss payment for services that must be separately billed to be properly reimbursed. Typically, hospitals add up all room-related services into one rate (whether hourly or daily) and as a result, potentially miss legitimate revenue opportunities.

CMS allows facilities to line-item report what have been traditionally thought of as non-reportable nursing services—such as injections, infusions, and transfusions—on both inpatient and outpatient claims under certain circumstances. Hospitals should establish internal policies and procedures to ensure correct billing and to avoid the perception of “double dipping.”

Join expert speakers Denise Williams, RN, CPC-H, and Valerie A. Rinkle, MPA, at 1 p.m. (Eastern) Thursday, November 20, for the 90-minute live webinar, Ancillary Bedside Procedures: When to Charge Beyond the Room Rate. They will explain when hospitals can bill separately for nursing services and explain how to create an internal process for tracking these charges. For more information or to order, call 800/650-6787 and mention Source Code EZINEAD or visit the HCPro Healthcare Marketplace.
