CMS is providing more resources to help providers prepare for the upcoming transition to ICD-10 October 1, 2015.

The agency released two new short videos on ICD-10 coding:

  • Introduction to ICD-10 Coding” gives an overview of ICD-10’s features and explains the benefits of the new code set to patients and to the healthcare community.
  •  ICD-10 Coding and Diabetes” uses diabetes as an example to show how the code set captures important clinical details.

In addition, CMS is planning two more weeks of acknowledgement testing.

Current direct submitters (providers and clearinghouses) can test with their Medicare Administrative Contractors (MACs) and the Durable Medical Equipment (DME) MAC Common Electronic Data Interchange (CEDI) contractor anytime up to the October 1, 2015 implementation date. During the acknowledgement testing weeks, the MACs will provide real-time help desk support for submitters.

Acknowledgement testing provides limited feedback because claims do not go through the adjudication process and the MAC does not produce remittance advice. However, submitters will find out whether they can submit a claim correctly and whether the MAC’s system can accept the claim.

The remaining acknowledgement testing weeks are March 2-6 and June 1-5. Registration is not required for testing weeks.
