The 2014 ICD-10 implementation delay negatively impacted ICD-10 preparations, according to the Workgroup for Electronic Data Interchange (WEDI) February 2015 readiness survey.
A total of 1,174 health plans, clearinghouses, vendors, and providers answered the survey, with providers making up the largest group (796).
WEDI asked providers to give the top three obstacles that have caused delay and/or lack of progress in ICD-10 planning and implementation.
Continuing uncertainty about the final implementation date topped the list with more than half of the providers listing it as one reason. Other obstacles include staffing and competing priorities.
Just over one-third of providers have completed their readiness assessment, according to the survey. In WEDI’s August 2014 survey, slightly more than half of the 324 providers had completes this step.
More than half of providers plan to code natively in ICD-10, a decrease from the August survey.
WEDI notes that some of the variations in responses could be due to the sample size. Twice as many organizations participated in the February 2015 survey compared to the August 2014 one.
