What are your current job responsibilities?
I am a RAC/DRG inpatient auditor with PRGX USA in Atlanta.
Why did you decide to pursue a career in health information management?
My very first job was an evening shift file clerk and I had two wonderful bosses, Larry Ball and Ginger Charles, at Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, WV, who really encouraged me to pursue my education in the health information management field at Marshall University. My career path led me to Charlotte, NC, and I have been blessed to work under some of the finest HIM directors in that last 27 years of my career including Pat Dear, Lisa Walter, Sharon Porterfield, Barbara Failing, Linda Vance, Claudia Urech, and of course, Larry Ball.
What do you like most about your job?
I enjoy auditing inpatient charts.
What is your favorite area of coding?
My favorite areas are auditing/teaching/coding inpatient and outpatient charts for hospital based facilities.
What is your least favorite area of coding?
Interventional radiology-yuck!
What are some of your hobbies?
I enjoy Zumba and softball. I am a big Cincinnati Reds and Carolina Panthers fan!
